Department of Electrical Engineering 

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EED) at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, invites applications for admission to its Full-Time and Part-Time Ph.D. program.

Research Areas:

  • IoT system architecture, IoT enabling technologies, IoT communication & networking protocols. IoT for smart agriculture, smart health, and smart cities.
  • SIW/ OAM/Active/ MIMO Antenna, active and passive circuits, sub-terahertz and terahertz antennas, photoconductive antennas, 5G antennas and devices, microwave devices, metamaterial-based antennas, slow-wave structures, planar traveling tubes, radar-based detection for medical purposes.
  • Multi-antenna (MIMO) systems for next-generation wireless systems (5G/6G), 5G and beyond wireless communications, and optical wireless communications.
  • Machine learning in computer vision and facial expression recognition, machine learning in wireless communication, and brain signal processing applications.
  • Reliability-aware design of advanced computing architecture, modeling of advanced transistor architectures and on-chip interconnects and their circuit implications, CAD algorithms for VLSI.
  • Semiconductor/MEMS sensors and devices for various applications, e.g., RF, biomedical, IoT, etc.
  • Organic and flexible electronics: organic solar cells, perovskite solar cells, fundamental studies on charge transport in organic semiconducting materials and devices.
  • Transport in semiconductors, TCAD, advanced semiconductor devices, and VLSI for smart power applications.
  • Electromagnetics, energy systems, Photovoltaic power system, power electronics.

Eligibility:

Eligibility for Full-Time/Part-Time candidate Selection Process
  • M.E. or M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics & Communication/ Electrical & Instrumentation/ relevant discipline from a recognized Technical Institute / University with 60% or 6.5 CGPA.
  • M.Sc.* in Physics with specialization in electronics/solid-state engineering, M.Sc. Mathematics with specialization in signal processing/ theory of computation from a recognized Technical Institute / University with 70% or 7.5 CGPA.
  • B.Tech./B.E.* in Electronics & Communication/ Electrical & Instrumentation/ relevant discipline from a recognized Technical Institute / University with 70% or 7.5 CGPA.

    *M. Sc./ B.Tech./ B.E. candidates with valid GATE / CSIR/UGC-NET/ INSPIRE fellowship will be preferred.

Note:

  1. Applicants waiting for the qualifying examination results are also eligible to apply. However, those who are finally qualified must produce proof of minimum eligibility of marks or an equivalent grade point before taking the admission in the EED Ph.D. program.
  2. Part-Time Ph.D. applicants should be working in the relevant area (Industry/Academic/Research Institutions) for a minimum of 2 years. The candidate is required to produce a No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of admission. 
  • Eligible candidates will be called for written test conducted by the department (online mode).
  • Candidates will be shortlisted and called for an interview based on written test performance. Interviews will be conducted at the Shiv Nadar IoE, Delhi NCR campus (in exceptional cases, it can be held online).
  • Candidates with a valid GATE score of 95 percentile or higher will be exempted from the written test.
  • The eligibility criteria mentioned above are the minimum, and applications not meeting the same will be summarily rejected.
  • The shortlisted candidates will be entitled to reimbursement of 3AC train fare (to and fro) against the actual ticket for appearing in the interview process. For outstation candidates, accommodation in the Shiv Nadar IoE campus may be arranged on a payment basis. Transport may also be arranged from Greater Noida, Pari Chowk, metro station to the SNIoE campus for the interview process.
  • Please note that candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria may still not be shortlisted for admission. The shortlisting will be done based on the academic qualification and statement of purpose. Hence, not all applications may be shortlisted for written examination.

All full-time Ph.D. students admitted into the program shall receive a doctoral award (teaching and research assistantship) consisting of a tuition-fee waiver (as per department) and a monthly stipend of ₹40,000 for the first two years and ₹45,000 for the next three years, subject to benchmarked performance.

  • Fill in all the mandatory fields.
  • Online upload the following documents:
    • Passport size color photograph
    • Current CV
    • All Mark sheets/Degree Certificates (10th Standard onwards)
    • Standardized Examination certificate- CSIR, UGC, GATE, etc. (If applicable)
    • A Statement of Purpose
  • Application Fees:  Applicant will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of INR 1200. Application fees can be paid by online payment options during the application submission. No request for a refund of the application fee will be entertained under any circumstances.

    Note that the application is not deemed complete until all the prescribed documents and application fees are received on an online application portal.
